INTRODUCTION
This installation manual
provides step-by-step guidance
to ensure correct
and safe installation of the MHub369
unit. Proper installation is essential for optimal device performance,
reliable connectivity, and accurate data reporting. Please read this manual thoroughly before beginning the installation process
to familiarise yourself
with the product, required
tools, and best practices.
There are 2 variants of the
MHub369, named MHub369B, and with slightly more functionality, MHub369F.
There is an additional
waterproof version, MHub369W, where the PCB
of the Mhub369B is packaged into a
IP67 housing and matching IP67 connector. See the section below for details specific to this variant.
MHUB369F – FULL VERSION
Additional hardware
functionality of the MHub369F includes the following
features
- 2 additional digital inputs (input 3 &
4)
- RS232 serial port
- Optional RS485 serial port (this is factory
configured)
- CAN Bus
SIM INSERTION
There is no need under normal conditions to unscrew the screws
holding the plastic shells together as the SIM card and USB-C connector are
both accessible under the rubber flap on the
side of the MHub369.
Insert the SIM card before applying
main power to the unit.
To insert the SIM card, open the
SIM card cover from the left side.
The SIM card is inserted into the
with the contacts facing upwards.

NOTE – The SIM Card Holder
may be slightly obscured by the plastic,
and you may have to angle the SIM upwards to insert it.
Below is the SIM card in the incorrect orientation
Ensure
that the SIM card is fully inserted
and latched into place, the opening is quite
narrow, so use a fingernail or small flat screwdriver to gently push the SIM in. Once fully
inserted you will hear a click, and the SIM will remain
in place. If the orientation of the SIM card
is not correct, it will not latch into the socket.
If the orientation
and bevelled edge of the SIM card is not correct, it could lead to SIM card or SIM Holder damage
or failure, extreme
care must be taken.
MHUB369W
The MHub369 is essentially
just a MHub369B without the standard enclosure
and placed into an IP67 enclosure with the appropriate cable.
The MHub369W cable forms a waterproof connection with the device
itself. When inserting the cable be sure to line up the correct keys when on the socket
of the cable will not be
able to be inserted. Insert
the connector fully until an audible click
indicated that the connector is securely clipped
in and is fully mated
with the housing.
To remove the connector, simultaneously depress the clips on each side of the connector and pull.
MHUB369W – SIM INSERTION
In order to insert the SIM card into the Mhub369W it is necessary to open the enclosure. This is achieved by
releasing the catch on both sides of the
front panel of the device using a small flat screwdriver of approximately 4mm. Insert the screwdriver as shown, and then
apply slight pressure to the left in the image below, and this will unlatch the clip. Do the
same on the other side,
and you can then remove
the front panel with MHub attached.
The SIM card holder is on the underside of the PCB, so not clearly
visible, however it is possible to insert the SIM card without
removing the MHub369 from the base. Note the SIM card alignment in the
image below, with the SIM Card contacts
facing upward and the chamfered
corner of the SIM Card at the top right. This is the same orientation as when
inserting the SIM into a standard MHub369B or F. Insert the SIM Card fully
until the audio click is heard and the SIM card stays in place.
The SIM card should
be aligned with the edge of the PCB.
Image on the top right shows the SIM card when correctly
inserted. As a final step in the SIM card process,
it is recommended to put a dab of
RTV Adhesive Sealant over the end of
the SIM card and the edge of the PCB to ensure the SIM Card remains in place as
there is no foam pressure pad in the MHub369W as in the regular MHub369
enclosure.
INSTALLING THE MHUB369
The following section covers critically important guidelines to the wiring up of the MHub369 main harness. These guidelines must be complied with under all circumstances.
BEFORE INSTALLING THE UNIT
Before
starting with the installation, it is important
to check all electrical functions
of the vehicle. It is strongly advisable to draw up a check list. Use this
checklist after installation to verify that
all electrical functions work as before the installation of the unit.
Run the following checks before starting the installation procedure:
Read this guide at least once before
commencing with the installation. To avoid injury or malfunction of the unit after installation,
follow all steps carefully.
Ensure that you are familiar
with the specific
electrical detail of the
vehicle into which the installation is to be made. This is particularly important as one vehicle
differs from another.
- Before installing the MHub369, it is required
that the configuration of the MHub369 has already been completed. Contact the person responsible
for configuration and programming if you are unsure whether
this has been done.
This unit should not be
fitted within a range of 500 mm of any communication equipment
used by or within the vehicle. This includes items such as cellular telephones,
and RF communication radios.
- Earth and permanent feed points for the fitting of this equipment should be selected in accordance with the manufacturer’s manual provided with the
vehicle.
Do not use the earth or feed points used by other electronic
circuits of the vehicle such as ABS etc.
In order to protect the system wiring of the vehicle, place the system fuse
electrically as close
as possible to the take-off
point.
All drivers that
will be using this vehicle in the performing of their duties must be fully aware of the operation of this system should
the installation be such that it interfaces with the operational aspects of the
vehicle – such as an immobilizer.
Note: This equipment is intended to be installed at restricted access locations.
- Disconnect the battery of the vehicle. *Note that this can
vary for different vehicles. Refer to the manufacturer's manual for more information. If it is not permissible to disconnect the battery,
be extra careful
when making connections – especially to main power
Please note that there may be specific recommended mounting
locations for the MHub, panic switch etc., depending on the type of vehicle
that the installation is being completed on.
- Decide on a suitable location
to mount the MHub unit. Ensuring that the chosen location will allow for correct
routing of all cables and will not obstruct the driver in any way
- The following should be kept in mind when selecting a position:
- In order to ensure optimal operation of the MHub369, it should be mounted on a solid surface.
Ensure that the
location that you choose is free from occasional water splashes and build-up of
water vapor.
Ensure that the location that you choose is not subject to extreme vibration.
Ensure that the orientation of the MHub is correct for the GPS antenna operation. This is with the
shiny rectangle and angle detail
lines towards the top.
In the event that the digital or analog inputs and outputs of the MHub369 will not be used in the installation, these must be properly insulated
and secured to ensure that they cannot come into contact with any
electrical source.
The main power (red) line to the device must be fused with a maximum 5A rated in-line
fuse. Remove the in-line fuse while completing the wiring and insert
the fuse as the very last step
of the installation.
Under no circumstances
should reverse voltage be supplied to the device
LED FLASH STYLES
The MHub369 has 3 LED's at the front of the enclosure
that are used to indicate
various operational states of the device, this is particularly useful during the installation and fault diagnosis processes to determine of the MHub is operating correctly.
The LED’s flash in various patterns
to indicate the status
certain functionality.
The table below shows a timeframe of 3 seconds and indicates the
specific function and flash pattern.
